amalia, home

Our story

A small shop selling two things that were never really two things: the stuff a house needs, and the stuff the animal in it needs.

A living room with a dog bed set into the furniture rather than pushed against a wall
The test we apply to everything: would you still put it in the front room if the dog were not using it.

It started with a bed that had to be hidden

Amalia bought a dog bed that did the job and looked so bad it lived behind an armchair. The next one looked better and fell apart in four months. There did not seem to be a third option, so she started writing down what was wrong with each one, which is a habit that eventually turns into a shop.

amalyashop opened in 2023 and now runs out of a small unit in Norfolk. Everything is picked, tested, photographed and packed by the same handful of people, which is the only reason a range this small can be this fussy.

Two halves, one house

Most shops make you choose. Homeware sites treat a pet as a mess to be contained. Pet sites treat a living room as a floor to put plastic on. We could never see the line, because the same room holds both, and the same person is hoovering it.

So the shop has a home half and a pet half, and then a third part where they meet.

Home + Pet

This is the bit we are actually here for: things for the house that have an animal quietly in them. A key tray shaped like a sleeping dachshund. Coasters with a paw print pressed into the stone. A rack by the door that takes the lead and the keys, because those two things are always looked for together.

None of it barks at you. If a visitor never notices, that is the piece working properly.

What we will not do

  • Fill the shop up. The range stays small on purpose. One good version of each thing, and if we cannot beat what you already own, we do not list it.
  • Sell an animal a novelty. Anything a pet actually uses has to be right first and charming second. A bowl that looks wonderful and tips over is a bad bowl.
  • Invent a sale. A price that has been reduced was genuinely higher for longer than a week, and the reduced page says why: end of a colour run, an over ordered size, a discontinued format.
  • Rush the returns. Sixty days, and used pet items can come back. You cannot know whether a harness suits a dog in two weeks.

Who is behind it

amalyashop Ltd, registered in England and Wales, company number 14827301. It is a small team and one very tolerant test dog, and the mistakes are ours rather than a supplier’s. If something goes wrong, you will be talking to somebody who can actually fix it.
